Company Overview

RIVA PRODUCTIONS is the independent production company of Riva Freifeld. Riva has been a New York based producer, director and editor of documentary films for over 30 years. Her one hour film “Annie Oakley” aired in May 2006 on “American Experience”, the PBS historical series from WGBH. The film received major funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities and WGBH.

Fall, 2011 “The Old World and the Old West“  received a development grant from the N.E.H. and is seeking additional funds for production.

A sequel, “The Old World and the Old West: Cowboys, Indians, and Europeans”, is currently in pre-production. It tells the story of Buffalo Bill’s “Wild West” in Europe — the showbusiness phenomenon which unleashed a worldwide fascination with the American West — and the Europeans who followed him with very different visions of the West.

Two other documentaries are also in development: a film about Jewish opera singers in Nazi Germany and a life of the American poet Edna St. Vincent Millay.

RIVA PRODUCTIONS works with producers, camera and sound people, musicians and actors, in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Spain.
